If We Don't, Who Will?
Integrated Campaign Promoting Student Activism that
Garnered the Attention of President Obama
as: Creative Director
Following the success of #BaronPride, we launched an activism initiative that challenged the student body to work together on a social issue each year. Admin and student clubs would collaborate to create programming, curriculum, and community activities based on the chosen issue — voted on by students — with the goal of fostering discussion and facilitating action.
To launch the initiative, we interviewed 10+ student community organizers and dramatized their stories into a film. We also created posters based on those interviews, then installed them in "odd" corners of the school — suspended by wires, covering windows, floating in space — to generate buzz. The campaign helped promote year-round workshops, panels, and class activities about the chosen issue that year: sexual violence among high school and college students.
The campaign film caught the attention of a White House media aide, landing the team a screening with President Obama. Following the screening, we were able to welcome the support of the White House, American Film Institute, and Participant Media to our activism initiative.
